Back To Roma!

The day after the wedding we just woke up and headed back to Rome. As we started to leave it rained, perfect timing!
On the 20th, Maria Gracia’s family invited us to lunch at this restaurant in Frascati, which is about 10 minutes outside of Rome. The restaurant was at this gorgeous vineyard, it reminded me of napa except with an Italian feel. Lunch was fantastic. You would think my mother and I would have learned by now that every meal is five courses. We loaded up on appetizers and then learned that there was more food to come. With each meal we had wine, white, red and dessert. The dessert was life changing…for the first time I had crème bulee and it was the tastiest thing I have ever had.
After lunch we went back to my uncles and I started to feel restless. Up until now it had been very relaxing and low key but I was starting to feel like my time in Italy was slipping away. My mom and I had plans to go into Rome the next day so I just settled myself down with a movie.
The next day my mom and I saw a lot, essentially all of the sights. We started at the Colesseo, walked through Piazza Venezia, headed to the Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and then to Piazza Navona for lunch. We were getting kind of tired but there were still a few places I wanted to go. We went to Campo Di’ fiori but we were to late and missed the markets. So we got gelato and rested some more. On the way back to the metro, I thought we were going the right way but I think I missed a turn and we ended up at the Tiber River. I didn’t mind this because I had been wanting see the island but my mom wanted to go back. So I twas kind of a win/win. We walked around the island (it was small) and then along the river towards the metro stop. We were right by the circle Massimo, walking up the hill and it started to rain. It was the first time I actually enjoyed getting caught in the rain. Maybe I enjoyed it because we weren’t far from the metro or because of course I got us lost and my mom was asking me “WHERE ARE YOU TAKING ME?” or because I knew this was a great bonding moment with my mom, either way, I enjoyed it. Pretty much everything I saw that day, I saw the last time I was in Rome, except for the River. The day wasn’t as exciting as it could have been but I still had a great time, the fountain was still gorgeous but I didn’t have the same feeling as I did the first time I saw it all; except for the colesseo. There is something about that place that gives me chills <3 br="">September 22, 2010
Today was exciting for me because we were going to places that I had never been, first we were going to Piazza del Poppolo and Villa Borghese. Both recommended to me by a friend and I had read about Villa Borghese in Eat Pray and Love. We went to Piazza del Poppolo first and it was a cool place. When you enter the piazza you see two churches on opposite ends, in the middle of the piazza there is a fountain so if you are looking at it from the metro stop, this is what you see:

We headed to the left, up a bunch of stairs and up this path to Pincio. At the top you could see the piazza and a panoramic view of Rome. It was pretty. I imagined it to be gorgeous at night. We walked around the top and it was a lovely park. Tall trees, statues, fountains and benches. It was serene. We went back down to check out the piazza and had probably the cheapest lunch yet. Two drinks, two paninis, a croquet and fries for only 9 euros! Incredible! After lunch we went up to Villa Borghese and next to the colesseo this has become my favorite place in rome. I realized that the park we had seen on top was connected to the villa. It was so peaceful. When we entered the park there was a man playing his guitar and singing in English. I don’t know why but I love that. I think its so funny, it reminded me of a time in Procida when they had karaoke and everyone was singing in English. I ALSO love when people play music in metro stations. I think it’s the acoustics, its great. Anyway, the park was awesome. There was a duck pond that I fell in love with. You could even rent rowboats for 3 euros. I wanted to do it so bad but my mom wouldn’t do it with me. Walking around the pond instantly reminded me of the little mermaid. We continued walking and I saw the statue that Liz Gilbert talks about in Eat, Pray and Love. There was a cute café and more benches. I just love European parks because they are so unlike parks I’ve seen in America. I just see them as places I see myself going to often if I lived there. My quiet place. 
After Villa Borghese we walked towards the Spanish steps. We stopped for Gelato and sat down. We were still high enough where we had a view of Rome. It was close to perfect. The path we were on led us to the top of the Spanish steps. We took some photos, I heard “oo Michelle! Where’s Obama?” haha. We left the top and then went down the steps. Across the street that is perpendicular to the Spanish steps is the street that is full of high end stores. We walked around there and then headed home. The only bad part of this day was that I figured out that we couldn’t go to Germany to see Sara. It just didn’t work out with flights and transportation. I was bummed but figured going to Venice would be nice. It was a place my mom really wanted to go.

I felt kind of sick all day so my mom and I stayed home. Our plan was to check out Travestere and Gianocolo hill but its ok. That eventing we went for a walk around my uncles house and I picked up a can of Duff beer. I didn’t think they actually sold it anywhere. So I bought it and we all tried it, was gross. And of course, as usual the night before we travel anywhere, I found it hard to sleep.
